Proposal 7 Leaving Behind
Installation Uferstudios
A studio, a space that is constantly changing and thus influences those who work in it.
This concept reminds me of a project idea I had years ago but never managed to realize. It was about a room that was to be used every day by a different artist to create a one-minute choreography. The connection between the individual pieces that were created was to be the 'changed space'. When entering in the morning, each artist finds a different room, and in the evening, each artist leaves a room that is newly designed. The scenography should be the link between the pieces, the dramaturgical guide. Not the music or a theme, but the room itself should play the leading role.
In the space of "Leaving Behind" I was inspired by the different artistic approaches as well as by the traces left a long time before by Berlin Public Transportation Service workers. Curtains, which absorb every sound, form the frame for the wall below to make splashes of paint visible. Beuys looks out of the window with the coyotes, and I look into the room with one eye. Cables, the spatial laying of them, are made visible three-dimensionally with paper boats, and again and again Beuys. His works of art, his children, his love, his look out of the window - I see and admire this, and at the same time it shows a dominance that makes me shiver. How does this room withstand such dominance? I stand on the observation post and wait.
